Travel and Venue

The 17th Eucarpia Meeting on Capsicum and Eggplant will be organised in Avignon, France, from 11 to 13 September 2019 in the prestigious Palais de Papes (Palace of the Popes).

Capital of Christendom in the  Middle Ages, Avignon is touristic and  historical city, in the heart of french Provence region. More information on Avignon attractions and events can be found on the website of the Avignon Tourist Office.


How to reach Avignon

By train: 

Direct high-speed trains (TGV) connects Avignon to Paris (2h40), Lyon (1h00), Charles de Gaulle airport, Lille, Nantes, Rouen, Metz, Marseille, Montpellier, Genève, Bruxelles, Marne la Vallée, Rennes, Toulouse, Strasbourg.

Local trains connect the 'Avignon TGV' train station to the city center (stops 'Avignon Centre'), in 5 minutes.

By plane:

The closest airport is Marseille-Provence,  which offers a large panel of national and international destinations, including low-cost flights towards Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Portugal and other european countries. A free shuttle bus from Marseille Provence Airport can take you to the Vitrolles station to take the train to Avignon Centre, several times a day. The train fare is around 20 €. In alternative, shuttle buses are available up to every 15mn (from 4:30am to 11:30pm) to reach Marseille train station in 25 mns ('gare SNCF'). You can then reach Avignon by  high speed or regional trains.

It is also possible to arrive at Montpellier Mediterranée Airport. Montpellier Mediterranean Airport is at the edge of the A9 motorway network (Exit 29, Montpellier Est). It is also possible to reach the downtown train station in 15mns by public transportation , to take the high speed train (TGV) to Avignon.

 

By car:

  • Autoroute A7 - Exit Avignon Sud  #24 (from Marseille, Nice, Italy). Please see google map
  • Autoroute A9 - Exit Remoulins (from Nîmes, Montpellier, Toulouse or Spain) ; Follow direction "Avignon Centre" (Avignon Downtown). Please see google map

To join the Pope's Palace from the TGV train station

  • Take the train shuttle from the TGV train station (AVIGNON TGV) to the Down Town train station (AVIGNON CENTRE) (4 to 6 minute trip, 1.60€ ) There is a TER train all 30 minutes. https://www.thetrainline.com/en/train-times/avignon-tgv-to-avignon-centre
  • Walk 10 minutes in the Avenue de la République in front of the Down Town train station until the Popes’ Palace.

A list of hotels and low-price accommodations will be soon available. We recommend that you book rooms as soon as possible as Avignon is among the favourite tourist spots in Provence.

Lunch and Gala Dinner

Lunches will take place at the Palace of the Popes from 11th to 13th September 2019
(Jeanne Laurent Room the 11 September ; Paneterie room from 12th to 13th)

The Gala dinner will take place on Thursday 12 September in the city center of Avignon. (More information coming soon)

Abstracts

ABSTRACT should be structured in such a way as to include:

  • Title should be brief and reflect the content of the abstract. The length of the title is get at a maximum of 200 characters.
  • Background/Objectives: 1100 characters including spaces
  • Material/Methods: 700 characters including spaces
  • Results: 1300 characters including spaces
  • Conclusion: 700 characters including spaces
  • References: 3 relevant references maximum. List the first two author name(s) (surname and initials of first and middle names) followed by "et al.", the year of publication, the journal, the volume(issue) and pages. If available, add the doi.
  • Tables and images: authors may upload a single file in JPG format, composed of data tables and/or pictures/graphs. The legend must be included in the jpg file, and will not be counted in the abstract word count. Please keep in mind that the text has to be readable in the published format, and the file size has to be exactly 13.5 cm width x 10 cm height. We recommend 10-point Calibri font. The maximum file size is 10 Mb.
  • The abstract (including title, authors, their affiliation, table/image box and references) must fit a 13.5 cm (width) x 19.0 cm (height) box, on 2 pages maximum, and should not exceed 4000 characters including spaces.

Orals and Posters

Guidelines for those giving oral or poster presentations

Oral presentations

10 minutes are allocated to each oral presentation with an additional 5 minutes for questions.
25 minutes are allocated to each keynote presentation with an additional 5 minutes for questions.

Please adapt your presentation to fit the time limitation so that the sessions proceed smoothly.

We would ask you to:

  • prepare your presentation in two formats : one in .ppt or .pptx (Microsoft Office PowerPoint 97-2013 format), and another in .pdf (Adobe Acrobat format)
  • name the two files of your presentation with its code (see program and below)
  • copy the two files onto your USB key and bring it with you
  • copy them also onto your cloud drive (One Drive, Google Drive...) to access them by the internet in case of problem
  • send if possible the .pdf file to eucarpia-capsegg2019@inra.fr as a backup
  • upload your presentation onto the congress computer at the latest on the morning before your presentation (each day from 8:00 to 8:30)
  • avoid using videos embedded in your presentation (if you wish to display a video, please contact the technician in the lecture hall when uploading your file)
  • note that using your own laptop will be IMPOSSIBLE

Poster guidelines

  • recommended poster size: A0 Portrait (119 cm height × 84 cm width)
  • posters have to be printed by authors
  • posters will be displayed in the main reception room called “La Paneterie”, preferably from Wednesday 11th September 2019, from 8:00 am to 9:00 am
  • posters will be hung up by authors on supplied boards: 2 clips will be provided for each poster
  • presenting authors are kindly requested to stay close to their poster during poster sessions (see congress planning & program)
  • poster removal: Friday 13th September 2019, between 12:15 and 13:45 (and at the latest before 16:30)
  • posters left on the boards after the removal deadline will be destroyed

Code

  • See the program for identifying the code of your orals and/or posters.
  • Orals and posters have been allocated a code according to the following system:
    • The first two letters indicate the session (“GR” for Genetic Resources & Domestication, “RS” for Resistance to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses, “NQ” for Nutritional Quality and Quality traits, “BG” for Biotechnology and Genomics and “PB” for Pre-breeding and Breeding),
    • The following letter indicates the type of communication (“K” for Keynote, “O” for Oral, or “P” for Poster),
    • The code ends with a number matching the order of the abstract within the session 
    • Examples given: GR-K/01 for the keynote of session “Genetic Resources & Domestication”, GR-O/02 for the next oral presentation of the session, GR-O/07 for the last oral presentation of the session, GR-P/08 for the first poster of the session, GR-P/09 for the next poster, GR-P/14 for the last poster of the session.
